A Louisiana congressman is the latest victim of the satirical newspaper The Onion, after publishing -- and quickly deleting -- a Facebook post linking to a mock article about Planned Parenthood.
According to Politico, Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) alerted his Facebook followers on Friday to a May 2011 article in The Onion, headlined: "Planned Parenthood Opens $8 Billion Abortionplex."
The satirical article goes on to describe an invented "sprawling abortion facility" that includes "coffee shops, bars, dozens of restaurants and retail outlets, a three-story nightclub, and a 10-screen multiplex theater."
"More on Planned Parenthood, abortion by the wholesale," Fleming commented in his Facebook post.
Fleming's spokesman Doug Sachtleben told Politico that the congressman's office had no comment, besides confirming the post had been removed.
Fleming is not the first to be fooled by The Onion.
The blog Literally Unbelievable, which captured a screen-shot of Fleming's Facebook post, is dedicated to mocking those who take The Onion's articles seriously.
In September, the US Capitol police was forced to issue an "all-clear" to reassure members of Congress and their staff after The Onion tweeted a hoax report suggesting a gunman was on the loose inside the building.
