The Washington Education Association endorsed Democrat Jay Inslee in the gubernatorial race Saturday after meeting with him. Republican candidate Rob McKenna canceled his appearance before the state's teacher's union.
“I’m incredibly honored to have the support of Washington’s teachers, some of the most dedicated and hardest-working professionals in our state,” Inslee, who represents Washington's first district in the House of Representatives said.
McKenna's campaign said that it opted out of the race because it felt as though the WEA had already decided to endorse Inslee.
"Yesterday it became very clear that the WEA was setting it up to celebrate the endorsement of Congressman Inslee Day," Randy Pepple, McKenna's campaign manager, told the Seattle Times.
