CARLSBAD, Calif.—Fifteen athletes race for those who have put their lives on the line.
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund(IMSFF) announced Friday that 15 athletes are competing in the 2010 Carlsbad Marathon to raise awareness for their program.
The marathon starts Friday, January 22nd and finishes on Sunday, January 24th.
This special group of runners are running as Community Athlete and members of the Semper Fi Fund's Community Semper Fi Team.
Community Semper Fi (CSF) Team is made up of thousands of citizens we affectionately refer to as our "Community Athletes." These dedicated citizens conduct grassroots efforts to raise awareness about the Semper Fi Fund's mission and programs, and to raise funds by competing in and/or hosting sporting events across the country.
Whether they are competing in marathons, triathlons, bicycle races, auto races and other athletic competitions, to hosting golf outings, mud runs and other athletic events, raising awareness for the program is their top goal.
IMSFF is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions for Marines, Sailors and other military personnel assigned to Marine Forces, injured in post 9-11 combat, training, or with life threatening illnesses, and their families.
The runners in this weekend's Carlsbad Marathon are sponsored by NRG Energy, which is donating $15,000 towards "Run for the Fund!"
IMSFF has awarded more than 17,000 financial grants totaling more than $36 million.
