ANCHORAGE, Alaska—U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have seized more than $1.2 million in heroin from shipments passing through Anchorage’s FedEx facility in the past month.
According to CBP spokesperson Jerry McGee, on April 22 officers searched an abnormally heavy express shipment of two small women’s purses from Malaysia, finding 432 grams of heroin sewn into their liners.
A second seizure came on April 26, when taped packages of heroin weighing 1.7 kilograms were found in an express shipment of baby wipes, while a third on May 10 involved just over 830 grams of heroin hidden in picture frames shipped from Thailand.
More than six pounds of heroin were recovered in the seizures, all of which remain under investigation.
