Governor Sean Parnell says his new benchmarks for progress on a major gas pipeline must be met before the state talks gas tax rates with companies.
Parnell set a new series of benchmarks in his State of the State address Wednesday. The first of those calls for the North Slope's major players and TransCanada Corp. to settle on a project concept by Feb. 15.Parnell told reporters Thursday he believes that goal is achievable. He said he set new targets because the companies "upped their game and responded" to benchmarks he set last year to jumpstart the seemingly stalled project.
He said if the new goals are met, Alaskans will know what's in it for them, and the state can begin talking about gas tax rates at that point.
