Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer will return to work Monday after he experienced chest pains Tuesday.
Brewer stayed at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for testing until Friday afternoon.
On Monday the mayor held a press conference where he said doctors said the cause of his chest pains were not life threatening.
“After some significant testing, they ended up finding out it was acid reflux…which has some of the symptoms very similar to, as if you were having a heart attack, some heart complications,” said Brewer.
Acid reflux is a gastric disorder which causes stomach acids to back up into the esophagus and leads to heartburn.
Brewer said his doctor prescribed some medications and encouraged him to take steps like cutting back on work hours, changing his diet and adding more exercise to life a healthier lifestyle.
