A former Addison man convicted earlier this year of killing his mother and another woman in 2006 was sentenced today to life in prison without possibility of parole.
Gary Schuning, now 28, was convicted in May 2011 in the February 2006 murders of his 40-year-old mother, Doris Pagliaro, and Kristi Hoenig, 21, an escort service worker from Chicago.
Police said that on the night of Feb. 25, 2006, Schuning fought with his mother in their home on the 300 block of South Yale Street in Addison and stabbed her 40 times before hiding her body in a bedroom. Schuning then called an escort service and hired Hoenig, who was killed after she found a bloody knife in a bathroom, according to testimony in DuPage County court.
Since the death penalty has been abolished in Illinois, officials said the only sentence available for Schuning on the multiple murder conviction was life without possibility of parole.
