1. What a tragedy - how sad! I lived in LA for almost three years and found the city fascinating but being an Easterner, I simply did not adjust. I'm sorry for the family and no matter what I say will bring back the gentleman and for that I feel sadder. Life as we once knew it can no longer be the same and that is even sadder. I wish there was something I could do to make the family feel better I would gladly do so.

2. It's unbelievable to read these posts and see that almost every group - minority or otherwise - has been blamed! When bad things don't happen in our neighborhoods, we take the safety for granted. When something bad does happen, suddenly it's a horrible city and everybody and their mother is to blame! Are we educating and preparing ourselves during the "good" times? Are we personally taking action or do we think the government is going to watch every single street corner simultaneously at all times? It reminds me of earthquakes: How often are we urged to keep an earthquake survival kit on hand and how many of us actually do?

3. wow ! I read this story in disbelief...as a former Los Angeles resident , I was very sad and also disgusted by the utter lack of concern , that people could have for another human being. I n this age of technology- NOT ONE PERSON could have taken a moment of their time to call 911.....from the safety of their car ? My condolences to his entire family....Lessons need to be learned from this. I find that people in the surrounding area will take this as a "wake-up " call, to make changes for the positive. I thinkalso increased Police Patrols - would be a good idea.

5. We do not live in a Third World Country! This isn't Iraq! We don't go around killing people here. We cannot let these bad guys get away with any more of this activity! Don't give up! Be aware, watch & listen and HELP if you can. And everyone, watch your back!! We can make the streets safe again. This is our town! God Bless you all! Don't give up the fight!!! God Bless the man who died and his poor dear family. I hope that some of you will heed my words and change how you think! Its our DUTY as HUMAN BEINGS!!!

6. We MUST GET INVOLVED and help the police fight crime. Naturally its important to keep yourself out of harms way, but you can still pick up the phone and call 911! That poor man's cries for help should not be ignored for over an hour! That's just evil. Everyone who heard his cries and didn't do anything about it should be ashamed of themselves.

7. I've been living in West Hollywood for 11 years and I've always felt relatively safe until recently. I manage an apartment building and I'm worried about my tenants safety. We can not let vagrant or young thugs run us out of our beautiful city of We Ho!! We must fight back. We must all be part of a COMMUNITY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH!!! Even if you don't go to any meetings, just listen for trouble or screams or cries for help and GET INVOLVED!!! Call the Police or go investigate yourself.

8. We should all blame ourselves for accepting this lawsuits society. We believe in lawsuits and we sued or can be sued for everything. That makes us look another way and get involves with another person or situations. Some of us learn the hard way. It really does not pay to even get involved. Unless we resolve this lawsuits society we are going to be more lonely, isolated and selfish society.

9. Response to Paul. I wrote previously, this type of behavior has been going on for over 25 years that I'm personally aware of.What the heck has taken so long to have a neighborhood watch meeting on this same issue that's plagued the area? Safety tips? For crying out loud what kind of nonsense are the people who are paid to keep this area of our community safe talking about? This isn't a first time offense, this is a recurring, unending nightmare that they have failed to address for far too long. Read the comments here and they'll understand why. They are the problem, not the solution. Just doing their job for starters, might help.
