Traffic is snarled in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 west of Hagerstown while rescue workers respond to a traffic accident that was reported at 2:35 p.m. today, Maryland State Police said.

First Sgt. Kevin Lewis said the accident occurred near the intersection of I-81 and U.S. 40.

He said troopers were responding to a second accident that was reported in the same area at about 3:20 p.m.
