Woman Is Accused of Stabbing Newborn Baby
An 18-year-old woman has been charged with trying to kill her infant son after giving birth to him in the shower and stabbing him repeatedly with scissors, police said.
Consuelo Camacho was arraigned Friday in San Bernardino County Superior Court on charges of attempted murder and child abuse, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said.
Camacho told detectives that she gave birth to the boy in the shower at her family’s home between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Miller said.
Camacho had concealed her pregnancy from family and friends, officials said.
Paramedics arrived at the house about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. They resuscitated the boy and rushed him to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The boy had surgery for a collapsed lung and other injuries, authorities said.
His condition Saturday was unknown.
