A dead man and a Bushmaster high powered rifle were discovered in a suspects truck after a high speed chase in northwest Harris County Wednesday night. 23-year-old Jamie Yanez was arrested and charged with murder, and aggravated assault against a public servant. The aggravated assault charge was filed because Yanez is accused of shooting at a Harris County Deputy Sheriff during the pursuit. The incident started at a restaurant parking lot on the Northwest Freeway at Tidwell.
"Officers were flagged down in the intersection regarding a shooting at the Mambo's parking lot. They were directed toward a vehicle that was attempting to leave and tried to stop that vehicle. That vehicle fled from them," said Sgt. Billy Bush of the Houston Police Department.
The chase ended along the Northwest Freeway at Kickapoo when police say Yanez pulled over and stopped. Police are not saying if they know why there was a dead man in Yanez's sport utility vehicle. The deputy who was shot at was not hurt. The case remains under investigation.
