HOUSTON—Police say a Lanier Middle School cross country coach and two eighth grade students were hit by a car in Montrose during a team run around 4:30 this afternoon.
The collision happened at the intersection of West Alabama and Mandell. Witnesses say the stoplight had just turned yellow but the car and runners both kept going and they collided in the crosswalk. HPD says the students sustained minor concussions. There is no word on the condition of the coach, who has been identified as Linda Suttles.
It is unknown if speed or perhaps a sun glare contributed to the accident. HDP officers say the driver did not appear impaired. They say he didn't see the group coming.
Police say the driver was uninjured. At this point they say it does not appear he will face any charges.
