Chinese post-partum regimen of zuo yuezi
After giving birth, a Chinese mother is traditionally pampered for a month with chicken soup, liver soup and other foods to help get her strength back. At the end of the monthlong period, known as yuezi, the family throws a party for the infant. In the San Gabriel Valley, yuezi companies are jostling for a job formerly the province of grandmothers, touting their expertise in Guangzhou or Taiwanese-style regimens. Read the story:
