Two people were killed and a man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter Saturday after a pickup truck rear-ended an SUV at a red light in Anaheim, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

Police arrested Frank Flores, 22, of Sun Valley in the 6:25 a.m. crash.

Flores was northbound in his Ford pickup on Harbor Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of a Jeep Cherokee stopped in the left turn lane at Convention Way, authorities said.

The impact of the crash carried both vehicles about 300 feet beyond the intersection.

Harbor Boulevard from Orangewood to Katella avenues was closed in both directions for six hours as police and firefighters cleared the scene and investigated.

A man and woman died in the flaming Jeep. Their identities were not available Saturday. Police said their vehicle was rented.

Flores was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility.

Three men who were passengers in his pickup were burned; two of them were treated at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Police are still investigating the crash, but alcohol was not involved, said Sgt. Rick Martinez. He said the manslaughter charge was based on several factors.

“It was the speed the vehicle was traveling, the severity of the impact, the fact that the guy was stopped at a red light and was just plowed into,” Martinez said.
