Sierra fire in Cajon Pass now at 40% containment
The Sierra fire burning in the Cajon Pass is 40% contained as crews prepared their morning assault, and full containment is expected Friday.
The fire started Tuesday afternoon at 3:51 p.m. near Glen Helen Road, according to the U.S. Forest Service, and burned quickly through 200 acres.
Fire officials said it was 85 degrees at the time it broke out and that south winds were gusting at 18 miles per hour.
Initially, crews had to set up defensive positions to stop the advancing flames from overrunning some two dozen mobile homes in the area.
Evacuations are in effect for residents on Glen Helen Road west of Interstate 15 and Glen Helen Road is closed west of Glen Helen Parkway.
