This is a wonderful story about your trip to San Francisco with Mr.Ayers. I had seen "The Soloist" in a theater and although I attended the NAMI convention in San Francisco, I was not there at the time Mr. Ayers arrived. Thank you both for this collabaration which tells me that we are not our illness and that good things happen.

Dear Mr. Lopez; Thank you for bringing the plight of the mentally disabled to the publics attention. People need to know and understand..that people are probably born with this disability...but it usually and cruelly doesn't manifest it's self until late adolescence or early adulthood.then their maybe unusal behavior is treated criminal and they land in jail...Keep educating everyone about this terrible illness..God bless you !..A mother who has lost her beloved MI son.

Thanks for sharing the road trip: the story and your writing were a delight. I've been following your columns since the git-go, got to see the film, and so curious and happy to claim Nathaniel as "tribe." It isn't often you see another "Ayers" in the news, and then all of a sudden we've got another talented musician and an alleged domestic terrorist. For the record, my father, another Bill Ayers, was not a terrorist but did sing, won dance contests and played the harmonica. "Putting on Ayers" would be a great CD title. -- traveling mercies, Nathaniel and Steve, and keep the stories coming.

Dear Mr. Lopez, I am only one of about a million people that have read your book and seen the movie. I truly hope Jamie Foxx gets a nomination for his wonderful portrayal of Mr. Ayers. Hopefully, you felt the same when you saw the movie. I just finished your book - my mother gave me a copy saying it's the best book she's ever read. Thank you for bringing us Mr Ayers and I hope you continue to do so. We all want to know how both he and you are doing. I truly hope Mr. Ayers follows up with a CD - that would be wonderful. He has a huge audience that is looking forward to it!
