Not Guilty Plea Made in ‘Thunder Sticks’ Case
A Central California sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty Monday to assaulting a Huntington Beach man who tapped him with “thunder sticks” at an Anaheim Angels playoff game.
San Benito County Sheriff’s Deputy David Hackman, 32, has been free on his own recognizance since the Oct. 6 incident. He is to appear in court Jan. 6 for a pretrial hearing.
Hackman is accused of throwing Daniel Slama to the ground after Slama knocked his head with the stick, an inflated vinyl tube.
Slama suffered two broken vertebrae and a fractured skull.
