Provisions of Proposition 83
The law, passed by voters a year ago:
* Prohibits sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools, parks, other spots where children gather*
* Requires felony sex offenders to be monitored electronically for life
* Broadens definitions of some sex crimes and increases penalties
*Largely because of the residency requirements, the measure is being challenged in various courts, including the California Supreme Court, as unconstitutional.
