LAPD officers fatally shoot man wielding knife
The shooting in Hollywood occurred after one of the officers was stabbed in the hand, police said.
Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a man who they said lunged at them with a knife this morning in Hollywood, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Curson Avenue, said Officer Kate Lopez. The name of the dead man, believed to be about 35 years old, was not immediately released.
The two officers were patrolling in the neighborhood this morning when they stopped to question the man who was lying on the ground, Lopez said.
As the officers approached and asked the man about his well-being, they said the man lunged at them with a knife and stabbed one of the officers in the hand, Lopez said. The officers then shot the man in self-defense, he said.
The officers' names have not been released.
The officer stabbed during the confrontation was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, Lopez said.
