From the Los Angeles Times
The LA Derby Dolls are too cool for the LA Times, too cool for Drew Barrymore and too cool for any crappy Hollywood movie.

As for anyone who thinks flat trackers are slow, that's one challenge that I'll gladly accept on any surface, any day, against anybody.
See you in LA!!!

I think what truly distinguishes the Awesome players is that they are *willing* and *eager* to try any game, on any surface, against anybody. It's heart and a real passion for playing that is the point, I think...
I love skating with LA and San Diego every time I get a chance, flat or banked, and their skaters can hold their own on any course, just as ours can. This tournament is going to be a historic and immensely fun time for the entire sport - and I really wish that people would stop using it as a device to divide the derby community rather than unify it.

As one of the Team Awesome (alternate) skaters playing in this tournament, I would like to clarify that, at least on my part, there's no way you could consider me in probably even the top fifty flat-track players in the country, probably not the top 100 even. Hell, I can probably think of a couple hundred flat trackers that are better than me. Most of the awesome skaters are from leagues ranked below top ten in the WFTDA, and while they are all utterly awesome, I really wish that everyone would dispense with this "best of the best" business. It's just a dream team of skilled skaters from varying backgrounds and leagues.

I seem to remember LA playing San Diego on thier flat track and getting schooled, in return when San Diego played LA on thier banked track San Diego was also taught a lesson. I think this proves that one is not more difficult than the other, just different. You will always excel at what you are more familiar with. The competition between the two is normal but neither should discount the others skills.

Wow, I actually read an article from LA Times that is not only well-written, but introduces me to something very cool that I didn't know about. Maybe I'll have to renew that subscription after all.

LADD is an organization of amazing women and skaters. These ladies are OUR SISTERS! There is NO tension between us. In fact, these ladies came to our practice last night for an awesome scrimmage. We are one big LA derby family. I would like to rebuttal the one comment on the "spanking" of ACDG by the Tough Cookies. We have never had an official game against the Cookies. I have a feeling you may be thinking about the OCRG game this past spring. Any time ACDG has skated with the LADD ladies, we have all given each other a run for the money.

Banked track hasnt grown due to COST OF THE TRACK, STORAGE and LOCATIONS to build it for Bouts.

I think it's important to note that these are REAL women doing a REAL sport; no Barbie dolls, no steroids, no bs. These women don't have to look a certain air-brushed way, they don't have to retire at the age of 30, they just have to have the dedication to skate until the crowd roars so loud their eardrums burst.
Hollywood couldn't make up something this interesting and cool.
The LA Derby Dolls put on one heck of a production; they do a FANTASTIC job of presenting a sport in an unorthodox way where non-sports fans are sports fans.
KEEP ON SKATING, LADIES!!
