  • We need a Master Plan for MdR which the Dept.of Beaches & Harbors and the L.A.Board of Supervisors have refused to do! Some of my clients choose to enjoy a lifestyle on their vessels as legal live-a-boards as I do on my 42' sailboat. Esprit I is the most expensive in MdR for apts.and boat slips and quoted upwards of $40 + per foot for a 60' slip which is double any other in MdR! Residents need to attend the Small Craft Harbor and the Design Control Board meetings to let the "powers that be' hear from us. MdR is a SMALL CRAFT HARBOR AND RECREATIIONAL AREA for the surrounding communities and development is secondary. Lets keep it that way.

  • What about the "black market" for boat slips that abounds in Marina del Rey? It starts with corrupt dock masters who have been empowered by management to evict whomever and when ever. End-ties can command prices in the thousands of dollars under the table. Boat owners who are paying these fees don't speak up as they are afraid of retaliatory eviction. How many evictions have to take place before the people who live on the water get together and form a Floating Home Association as they did in Northern California? This is the only way to stop the arbitrary and fraudulent evictions by unscrupulous landlords.

  • The Times really missed the boat on this story. This is not just about the few liveaboards but thousands of boaters that invested in the Small Craft Harbor built with taxpayer money and now are being told to "be on their way" because there are wealthier clients. This is about Cleansing, Gentrification, Corruption on Public Land, Campaign Contributions and the demise of the California Coastal Act. Public Access can be bought and sold and Supervisor Don Knabe is the broker. Organization of citizens and class action lawsuits will change the politics in Marina del Rey.

  • This story sadly just touches briefly on what is happening in the MDR. There are countless deals being made between developers and public officials that will only hurt residents of the Marina as well as surrounding neighborhoods. As a longtime Angelino, I urge fellow members of the community to get involved in stopping this overdevelopment before its too late.

  • Keep Fighting for your right to live on your boat Carla! You have been thier now for 20 yrs. You have come a long way, I'm proud of you! Nobody has the right to take your home away from you! Hey Don Knabe's why don't you trade your salary with Carla, you might find yourself living on a boat in MDR, & I bet you might just like it! And I bet you pay more for your haircut then she does her Rent, something to think about. Leave her & the Marina alone! Very well said Alan Hale Jr. Carla does not drive a car, she rides a bike, she lives on a boat,If anyone tries to take her home away! They will have to live with thier own guilt forever.

  • I am not a propety owner but I do rent at the marina and I've seen too many apartments along Via Marina and on the piers where bannisters are coming apart, and where the paint is peeling off the exterior walls. Unfortunately for the tenants of these buildings (whether owners or renters) too many of the apartments look much the same inside. If the present property owners are not going to adequatly maintiain these 30-year old buidlings then they need to be either sold and refurbished or sold and rebuilt. Frankly many of the older restaurants and hotels that surround the marina appear to be in much the same condition.

  • Levine's project's permit process has lasted about 7 years. This process was undisclosed to the adjoining Condos for 4 years. Levine's "technical issue" is the failure to disclose the amount of waste and earth being moved onto or out of the project. To this the judge applied the law which holds that the Public and their Representatives must be informed of significant facts. Levine wants to smooth away an undisclosed bump in his path; but the judge wants to ensure that Government of the People, by the People, and for the People shall not perish under an undisclosed amount of EARTH.

  • If everyone saw the L.A. Board of Supervisor meeting on July 15th that discussed the proposed Marina Del Rey development, then everyone would realize just how corrupt the L.A. Board of Supervisors are. The behavior of these so-called leaders of our city was disgusting. It is quite obvious that they do not really work for the city, you, and I. They work for their own financial gain - at our expense. Greed prevails. Read the transcript of the meeting and judge for yourself and you will agree with everything I have said.

  • Must EVERY inch of EVERYWHERE be allowed to be developed on. The "Marina" is one of the only true gems adjacent to Los Angeles left. I grew up going to the Marina... Don the Beachcomber, The Warehouse, El Toritos, Cheesecake Factory, The Chart House, Aunt Kizzy's.... Some things should just be left alone. Let people live in a quiet undisturbed area for once. Some development is good but geez....leave Mother's Beach ALONE!

  • I have lived in the Marina for 20 years and have seen enormous change, and most recently, all the change has been bad. The fault for all the negative problems in the Marina fall squarely on Don Knabe's shoulders. He consistently refuses to meet with all the community groups who have issues with some of the developers' plans. His attitude is that he knows better than all of us residents (though his salary is paid by our taxes). He should be removed from us for ruining our beautiful Marina.
