  • I've lived in Phillips Ranch for two decades. At the grocery store in the center of the Ranch I would survey the checkers with a question: "When you take a check from a shopper, how often does the address on the check say Phillips Ranch instead of Pomona?" The answer the checkers gave me: About 80% of the time. Phillips Ranch is not a city, just a corner of Pomona where the residents do not want to be associated with Pomona. Liberate Phillips Ranch. Let's incorporate.

  • I am not a big fan of checkpoints and are a waste of resources. I would rather see police officers conduct saturation patrol of high crime areas within the city.

  • The article mentions that Rodich came to Pomona 30 years ago and thought it was heaven? In 1978-9?? If so, then he was particularly blind at the time. The gangs, prostitutes, dwindling commercial area, and terrible schools were well in place then, and Pomona already had a reputation in the Inland Valley as a place to duck and cover. Maybe the streets are cleaner(?) and the lovely bungalow areas (like Lincoln Park especially) more beautiful, but Pomona has, and continues to struggle and has wept for its murder victims for decades. And it hasn't mattered who was mayor or police chief.

  • That City Council is totally corrupt. You want a really good story, you should dig deeper.

  • Traffic checkpoints need not be interpreted as aggressive and controversial. Keeping the community safe should be the number one priority of city leaders. All ethnicities and economic categories benefit from a safe community. Support the police department in the challenging effort to police this community.

  • Well people are trying to put our chief of police in Maywood down. Frank Hauptmann. Chief Hauptmann has cleaned our PD and got rid of our corrupt police officers. Remember convicted cop Al Hutchings who was hired by our Mayor Aguirre and his followers in Feb.He has a clean record that no one is able to see. He has cleaned our police department that no one can see? These are the things we need to focus on and not the chief nor his daughter. Why didn't u voice your opinion when family members of other council worked here? Were was your mouth then? Let's not forget Pomona,Maywood,Bell and so many other PD risk their lives to protect u and I!!!

  • Pomona is becoming like Maywood. Maywood has a bad Mayor named Felipe Aguirre who has a puppet Finance Director who cut a $95,000 check to refurbish the Mayor's immigration business. Hopefully in Pomona this doesn't occur. Finance Director Ira Peterson also does what Chief Frank Hauptmann tells him. Even supporting the hiring of his daughter as dispatcher. Lessons should be learned here and staff sometimes becomes the puppet of a bad Mayor.

  • This article is good. But it also leaves out relevant bits of info like what, exactly, people were being arrested for at these checkpoints. I'm going to guess it's the kind of stuff that's easy to regret until you're the victim of it--like unlicensed drivers, no insurance, warrants, etc. Pomona can be the next Claremont or it can keep being a ghetto. But you can't be Claremont without people realizing that nice communities are communities of law.

  • I always find myself bemused when I read about those of illegal status, driving illegally without a license, defaming law enforcement and ignoring the law, and, on top of that, appearing as if they should be entitled to special treatment. "Let's just ignore the law if it applies to illegals" seems to be the ironic sentiment.
