  • The new eSolar plant in Lancaster is a great project that is promoting new green technology. I'm tired of the LA Times spinning every story about the Antelope Valley and making it sound negative. This is a great area to live in and anytime we can bring in new industry to our area that should be a positive thing

  • I live right here in Lancaster, Basically a stones throw from the shelter and I really wish I could help more. Seriously I don't have alot to offer, but I know how hard it is to live here in the AV. And I totally support Jennifer for standing up for the health of her children. Just because she asked people not to smoke or cuss in front of the babies, does NOT make her childish, It makes her a very concerned and good mother. Jennifer my heart goes out to you and your little family, I wish I could help you more.

  • Here in Australia we have similar climatic conditions to southern California. I would love to see the solar power generation in Lancaster succeed and be adopted here, downunder.

  • I know Jennifer and Treavon were not supposed to be the focus of this story, but obviously their terrible situation created some strong feelings. I think those of you posting comments criticizing them (calling her "hoity toity"?? really?) should be ashamed of yourselves. They're basically kids trying to do the right thing for their babies, and they're in a desperate situation. Quit being so heartless and judgmental.

  • A zero carbon footprint in this situation is not possible. Electricity is real-time, so when it gets dark, what will they do for power during the night? The mirror setup is only good for daytime operation.

  • That's really horrible. I feel bad to all the people affected, especially the young mom & dad. That is so awesome that they took their newborns out of places where people who were supposedly their loved ones smoked and swore in front of the babies. Good for them. But maybe she could breastfeed since formula is bad for babies anyways? It would be more natural and help save money. Good luck & best wishes to everyone.

  • "They were living with her mother but were told to leave after Schmidt asked her not to smoke in front of the babies, Schmidt said. Then they moved in with his mother; she kicked them out, too, after Schmidt asked her not to cuss in front of the babies." so they were basically asked to act like reasonable adults and chose to behave like children.. great.. no wonder why they cant get jobs.

  • These plants that use sunlight to makes steam usually use lots of water. A plant proposed for the Indian Wells Valley north of Lancaster is designed to use around 4,500 acre feet of water a year. That is about half what the residents of Ridgecrest use a year. Where will all that water come from for all these plants? I would like to see some reporting about this issue.

  • The construction phase will employ some, and maybe a few doing minor maintenance later. It will make agood profit for e-Solar, but produce few jobs. The story is aimed in theb wrong direction. Sorry, we need millions of jobs, not 25-to-50 temp construction jobs.

  • I was at the City Council meetings when eSolar gave its presentations. Nobody was forced off of their land for this project in any way, shape or form. the project was originally to take shape at the NorthEast corner of 60th St. West and Ave. F, but the proximity to the airport there was an issue. The project was relocated to its current location as it was available land.
