Cancer risk from toxic air drops by 17% in Southland
Cancer risk from Southern California's air pollution has declined 17% over the last seven years but remains dangerously high across the region, particularly near ports and rail yards, along truck-laden freeways and in parts of the Inland Empire, according to a study released by regional air regulators Friday.

Long Beach OKs fee on cargo to fund green efforts
After years of unsuccessful attempts, the Long Beach Harbor Commission on Monday approved a $1.6-billion tax on cargo to raise money to combat air pollution and clear the way for expansion projects.

State OKs strict air emission measures
Backing up tough actions taken by Los Angeles-area ports, state regulators Friday enacted a strict air emission measure that will ban much of the current fleet of diesel trucks from all ports statewide.
