Homeless Vaccinated to Prevent Meningitis
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Hundreds of homeless people have been vaccinated at shelters against pneumococcal disease, which can lead to meningitis.
The county’s response Tuesday was triggered by an outbreak of symptoms at shelters. Since Jan. 31, seven homeless people have been admitted to Cottage Hospital with such symptoms.
Health officials said it was unlikely the disease would spread to a wider population.
