Ex-Inmate to Be Paid for Loss of Testicle
Solano County will pay $240,000 to a former inmate who lost a testicle after jail staff delayed treatment of an infection.
Lowell Crowder, 47, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in May 2003. In a lawsuit against the county, he said he told jail officials that he was taking antibiotics for an infection, but his requests to see a doctor and have his prescription continued were denied until June.
Jail staff disputed Crowder’s claims but said the inmate was first seen by a doctor June 6. Because of the delay, the infection grew and his testicle had to be removed a week later.
