Times wins three journalism awards
The Times claimed three winners Friday in the annual Scripps Howard National Journalism contest, which honors the best in print, Web and electronic journalism.
The Times staff won the group’s Web journalism award for its multimedia project “Mexico Under Siege,” which details the violent wake left by Mexico’s drug war. The Times’ interactive website, www. latimes.com/siege, tells the story of the Mexican government’s battle against drug cartels through articles, photo galleries, videos, an interactive map and a blog, among other things.
Michael Robinson Chavez won the photojournalism prize for his portfolio of work, which included images from Mumbai, Nepal, Mexico and the rural U.S. The judges cited his ability to “work intimately and analytically in unfamiliar cultures and situations.”
Former Times staff writer David Willman won in the Washington reporting category for his Times articles revealing the FBI and Justice Department’s flawed investigations into the 2001 anthrax attacks.
The awards will be presented April 24 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
