Man stabbed at Hollywood club Mood
Police say the victim was stabbed in the stomach by a fellow patron, apparently in a dispute over a woman. The man is hospitalized in critical condition.
A man was stabbed and critically wounded early this morning by a fellow patron at a Hollywood nightclub known for its high-profile celebrity clientele, Los Angeles police said.
The man, in his 20s, was stabbed in the stomach about 1:30 a.m. during a fight over a woman inside Mood, a club in the 6600 block of Hollywood Boulevard. The victim then collapsed near a neighboring hotspot, Geisha House, said Officer Kate Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities initially said the stabbing took place at Geisha House, which they said had been evacuated. However, in an e-mail to The Times this morning, a representative of the restaurant said the establishment was not open at the time of the incident.
The man who was stabbed was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition this morning, Lopez said. His name has not been released.
The block where the stabbing took place is a haunt for paparazzi looking for shots of Mood's celebrity customers, and video footage was shot shortly after the incident.
Reviews of Mood describe the club as a celebrity hangout frequented by Nicky and Paris Hilton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst and Eva Longoria.
Officers detained eight people after the stabbing, Lopez said, but made no arrests.
The staff at Mood could not be reached by telephone this morning.
