Do you agree with the panel findings in reforming SWAT teams?

1. The SWAT team doesn’t need for its standards to be lowered. In fact it cant have its standards lowered they are the best of the best, if the requirements to become a SWAT officer are loosened it will allow for under qualified personnel to join the team creating a weak link. And in this elite group they cant afford to have a week link. This will put the officers and civilian’s lives in jeopardy. Bratton should stand behind these brave officers.

2. Wilbur Varela, can you please cite the incident where a SWAT team, not just in the City of LA, but in LA County, shot a woman with a screwdriver? That doesn't sound familiar. Can you substantiate that comment?

3. I do agree with reforming SWAT. SWAT should definetly incorporate more negotiation strategies. As a cop, and teacher. Negotiation helps prevent violence in about 30% of the time. That is 30% less likelyhood that anyone would get hurt.

4. no women or liberals need apply. When I see SWAT I am afraid. I don't feel protected by the police, I feel threatened by their black uniforms and big guns. I feel afraid that they could care less about people, and that they are itching to use their skills. I feel oppressed by a country that settles everything with a shootout. And I'm a regular citizen. imagine what a mentally ill person feels when they see these guys.

5. They are jack booted thugs who enforce their will through intimidation and physical force. They are nothing more than a modern day SS death squad. Not only should they each be banned from police work forever, they should be ashamed of themselves. No punishment is too great, and they will whine about keeping their culture of murder intact, but in the end they serve the electorare and we clearly want them gone.

6. SWAT is typically the last resort right? They don't just waltz into any situation as they please. They get CALLED in when force is deemed necessary. I think the panel has been watching their kids easily beat those shooting games on the xbox.

7. Too much force on the SWAT?? Isn't that what they are called out for??? When the other officers that are called out to the scene aren't able to handle certain situations that happen to be more hostile this is what they are for.

8. Lets face it, cops see us as the enemy, ask a cop...everyone who is a civilian is a "punk". They dress like fascist storm troopers for one reason....to intimidate. Curiously, the rest of the western world doesn't need 50 cal. sniper rifles and black gear to negotiate with a mentally ill woman with a screwdriver. Here, she's shot dead by large men with big guns.

9. Keep SWAT the way it is! These people deserve everything they have - AS IS. The requirements are stringent for a very good reason - not everyone can do them. If this means certain people can't get into SWAT, so be it! Tough beans! Poor, poor report.

10. Are you out of your mind?? Take a gentle, passive approach with someone who has just butchered his family and expect them to act rational. This is the most ridiculous approach to law enforcement I have read in years. Maybe we can ask them nicely to surrender and not hurt the hostages.
