Police in Pomona have recovered the van used by a Lancaster man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend to death with a sword in front of her four children.

The GMC Safari van was found Tuesday by local law enforcement officers, said Deputy Oscar Butao, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The van was empty and Jesus Humberto Canales, who is wanted in the death of Lucy Preciado, is still at large.

Preciado was killed Saturday in Lancaster in front of her four young children.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that detectives described the killing as the worst they had ever seen, adding that the 911 call was "so horrendous, it made a couple of the homicide detectives cry."

On Monday, the Sheriff's Department released the chilling recording of Preciado's 9-year-old daughter calling 911 as her mother lay dying.

"Help, my dad just stabbed my mom . . . with a sword. He's leaving right now. Please hurry. I don't want my mommy to die," the girl was heard saying on the tape.

Although the sword was recovered at the scene, Canales is believed to be armed and dangerous, Butao said.

Anyone with any information about Canales is asked to call sheriff's homicide bureau detectives at (323) 890-5500.
