Based on the drawing's 20 mile scale length, the current shipping lanes are approximately 4 miles apart. Moving only the southbound lane 1.2 miles, results in the northbound and southbound lanes being only 2.8 miles apart. Does this 30% reduction in the lane spacing increase the risk of ships colliding during stormy or foggy weather conditions? A major ship collision could result in greater environmental damage than periodic whale strikes. This collision risk should be considered during the environmental studies.
