( Associated Press ) This Jan. 28, 1971, photo shows a downcast Polanski on the London set of his movie "The Tragedy of Macbeth," based on Shakespeare's play. It was being filmed at the same time that a court trial was being held in Calfornia for members of the Manson Family who had killed Polanski's wife, the actress Sharon Tate. At least one movie critic speculated that the exceptionally gory finale of Polanski's "Macbeth" was meant to invoke the Manson gang's vicious murder spree. |
