Three people were killed within blocks of one another in a 15-hour span in the Wilshire Center area, police said Saturday.

The killings all appeared to be gang-related but have no connection to one another, said LAPD Sgt. Joseph Sanchez. All the assailants were described as being 24 to 30 years old, with shaved heads. No arrests have been made.

The violence began at 12:30 p.m. Friday on South Mariposa Avenue when a 41-year-old man was shot to death by a man riding a bicycle, Sanchez said.

Dressed in a camouflage Army-style jacket and blue pants, the gunman rode up to the victim and argued with him. Then he shot him in the chest, Sanchez said. The wounded man died at a hospital.

About 9 p.m., a man was standing just a few blocks away on South Mariposa Avenue when two men got out of a car, Sanchez said. Without words, one of the men shot the victim, Victor Sanchez, 34, of Ontario, who died at the scene. Police found an assault rifle nearby, Sanchez said.

At 3:30 a.m. Saturday, a gunman walked up to a man in the 200 block of South Berendo Street and shot him in the head, killing him, Sanchez said.
