Schwarzenegger may have been a known entity by the time Conan came out, having appeared in the 1977 film Pumping Iron, but he was far from a household name. A string of small acting and TV roles followed "Pumping Iron," including a stint opposite Loni Anderson in The Jayne Mansfield Story. But it was the 1982 film Conan the Barbarian that established Schwarzenegger as a viable action star, and set up his role in Terminator. Conan, written by Oliver Stone and John Milius, even inspired a sequel the following year.
