Hit: “Conan the Barbarian” (1982)
Schwarzenegger may have been a known entity by the time “Conan” came out, having appeared in the 1977 film “Pumping Iron,” but he was far from a household name. A string of small acting and TV roles followed "Pumping Iron," including a stint opposite Loni Anderson in “The Jayne Mansfield Story.” But it was the 1982 film “Conan the Barbarian” that established Schwarzenegger as a viable action star, and set up his role in “Terminator.” “Conan,” written by Oliver Stone and John Milius, even inspired a sequel the following year. |
