CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / SOUTH BAY

Gardena City Councilman Steve Bradford will run again for the vacant seat in the South Bay-based 51st Assembly District, a contest he lost by 112 votes in the 2006 Democratic primary.

Bradford plans to announce his candidacy today, the same day that Curren Price Jr., who defeated him in 2006, is sworn in as a state senator. Price last month won a special election to fill the vacant state Senate seat formerly held by Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.

The governor is required to call another special election to fill Price’s Assembly seat. The date has not been announced.
