9 finalists seek Orange County sheriff’s job
The Board of Supervisors’ list to replace Carona includes the acting sheriff and the Santa Ana police chief.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors has narrowed its list of candidates for sheriff to nine finalists.
The list includes the long-standing local contenders, acting Sheriff Jack Anderson; former Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Hunt; Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Ralph Martin.
Others finalists are Beau Babka, undersheriff of the Salt Lake County, Utah sheriff’s office; Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams; San Bernardino County Undersheriff Richard Beemer; Anaheim Deputy Police Chief Craig Hunter; and Sandra Hutchens, retired division chief of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The county received 48 applications for the job. Finalists will be interviewed in public later this month, and the Board of Supervisors plans to name a sheriff in June.
The job became vacant when Sheriff Michael S. Carona resigned to fight a federal corruption indictment.
