A grand jury in Houma has indicted a Chauvin man accused of beating and smothering his girlfriend's 10-month-old baby on a first-degree murder charge.

Authorities say 23-year-old William Henderson broke both of Kaleb Nelton's arms and then killed the baby when he wouldn't to stop crying.

Prosecutor Carlos Lazarus says he hasn't decided whether to seek the death penalty.

Grand jurors heard evidence in the case in closed-door sessions last week. The indictment was made public Friday.
