NEW ORLEANS—Today, Sheriff Marlin Gusman stands alongside many civic and community leaders in endorsing Cedric Richmond to represent Louisiana's Second Congressional District.
"Cedric has the experience and proven track record. I know he will make a great representative for the Second Congressional District," says Gusman. "As chairman of the Judiciary Committee he knows firsthand the problems we face in the Criminal Justice System and he has worked tirelessly in the fight against crime." As a senior member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Richmond has been instrumental in drafting a number of bills to help curb crime in New Orleans.
"When addressing crime, especially in New Orleans, we need to look beyond rehabilitation as it's imperative that we also invest in prevention. I am dedicated to offering our children options so they won't feel forced to resort to a life of crime. I appreciate Sheriff Gusman's vote of confidence and I look forward to our continued work on addressing this matter," Richmond says in response to the announcement.
In addition to Gusman, Cedric Richmond has received endorsements from local and national Democratic leaders including The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, former U.S. Senator John Breaux and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC.
