12-hour Louisiana bank standoff ends with suspect, hostage killed
A 12-hour standoff at a rural Louisiana bank ended overnight with the death of the gunman and one of his hostages, police said Wednesday.
Another hostage was reported in critical condition after police stormed the Tensas State Bank in St. Joseph, La.
Police told the Associated Press that Fuaed Abdo Ahmed, 20, shot the two hostages before police shot and killed him.
Ahmed had previously released one hostage after speaking on the phone with a friend in Alaska, police said.
Officials told the AP that they suspected he was a paranoid schizophrenic and had taken devices to the bank to torture the employees.
“He was mad at people that he said were mean to him,” Louisiana State Police superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said. “He had voices in his head.”
The Times has placed a call with Louisiana State Police for an update on the investigation.
