  • The most hilarious part of this is Iran will likely have a big ownership in Iraq, (note the recent article about power repair work being done by Iran.) The majority of people in both countries -- Shiites. Just remember -- when the two countries merge, this program was brought to you by Bush II and the Neo-cons.

  • Yeahhhh, Consider this. Let's say we're both in traffic one day, and I ram into you first because I have a suspicion you might ram into me if I don't. Then I get out and ask you to pay for your own damn fender because Judging by the car you drive you have money put away and can afford to even though I was the one in the wrong.

  • I agree with the authors. Our men and women have paid a heavy price in their sacrifice of lives and limb as well as our tax payers have to free Iraq from Saddam's evil regime. Iraq should use some of the money to help in the effort to help themselves out of this mess. We Americans have been blessed with many gifts and we turn around and help others when in need, as we always have. How about a litle respect.

  • Why don't we simply leave Iraq and let them take care of their own things if we are not ready to fix the "pot that we broke" without the Iraqi's ever having requested us to come and put them in the misery that they are in? After all did we also not support the dictator from whom we claim to have freed them throughout the eighties with billions of dollars worth of aid and military hard ware? What moral or legal authority do we have to take any kind of self righteous posture as you are doing in this article of yours?

  • I nominate George Bush, soon to be ex-president of the US, as the new dictator of Iraq. We have paid a great deal for controlling Iraq. We can add it as a territory under US protection. American occupier soldiers should be replaced by a larger force of Taiwanese mercenaries; It would be cheaper. Also, the American public would not be concerned with what would have to be done to maintain US control.

  • You can't break another country and then tell it is their job to fix it - that's our responsibility irrespective of whether there is a budget surplus or not!

  • Reality King: brilliant geopolitical perspective you've got there.... give Iraq amusement parks shopping malls and strip clubs and everyone will be happy, grateful and patriotic. Our own country is already entertaining itself to death while the world goes to hell. This one goes in my list of top 10 stupidest things I've ever heard.
