It is an insult to those who lost their lives fighting for this nation to say the surge has failed. The surge succeeded, and the only chance at failure is if we elect an inept and inexperienced President whose only policy platform is to go wherever the political winds blow him at any given time

For the first time EVER, there is a real chance at momentous success in Iraq. While anger with the Bush administration is warranted for their feckless handling of postwar Iraq for over three years, you who have doubted America from the start have let your warranted anger towards Bush so cloud your judgement that you cannot even see the unprecedented successes we are achieving daily in Iraq.

Instead, Iraq is a young, fraglie and yet functioning ally in the war against Al Qaeda where American military servicemembers have proven that picking a fight with us is a poor decision; as evidenced by the droves of Al Qaeda operatives fleeing the country daily for friendlier shores...

I wonder what Iraq would look like if we had followed Obama's plan for the war almost 2 years ago: unilateral withdrawal. In short; Iraq would be a central operating base for Al Qaeda, mired in endless bloodletting and genocide, from where terrorists with an international reach and deplorable aspirations could attack at many of our allies in the region as well as stage attackes against our American homeland.
The Truthq @ 11:54 AM PDT, Aug 28, 2008
Anyone out there who believes the surge has failed is stuck in, to quote Billy Madison who said it best, "Loser Denial or something." Violence in Iraq is down almost 90%. An American in Iraq today has a better chance of being shot in downtown Baltimore, MD than anywhere in Iraq.

You people are all so ignorant and myopic in your views about Iraq it borders on hillarity. How many of you have ever been there? I would venture to guess none, and yet you speak with such certainty about the "Facts on the ground" as if you were privy to some information us lowly common folk could not comprehend due to our inferior intellect.
The Truthq @ 11:53 AM PDT, Aug 28, 2008
Your comment in the above; About G.W. being displeased with the Leader of Iraq for not accomodating the other parites He is dealing with. How INANE, IGNORANT and ARROGANT can any one man be? Bush has gone in and taken up occupation of a Nation that meant us no harm at the time of that occupation.
Our Pres. has not listened too anyone that speaks with any kind of sanity.
Pres. Bill Clinton Said it best to night;
"America has always led by the power of example not by the example of power".
Today our Nation is almost the very type of Government that we as a People have ALWAYS Stood Aginst. What has Happened too us?

Hey, if Bush and McCain say the surge was a success, then it was a success! Have they ever misled us before?? Name one time! Not all at once now. The fact is that our men in uniform have done an outstanding job at the task they were given since the beginning of this occupation, which was to kill as many terrorists as you can. But the surge was only meant to buy the Iraqi law makers time to reconcile and make progress politically, and they have not done so! 1.000 soldiers have died since the beginning of the surge! That's a success? There is nothing to win in Iraq. Nothing.

Some good comments here. I noticed a few of McCain's folks in here trying to change the subject from the failure of the "surge's" original objective to somehow it being Obama's fault. Someone called him President Obama? Not yet sir, but in 4 months for sure. Still lame duck Bush in office till then. Only he will be held responsible for the war crimes. And you are no WWII Marine, Lee Cones, if that's your real name. If you were really that old, you wouldnt be reading your paper online.

Unfortunately one of the lessons of the kind of intervention we are attempting in Iraq is one that we should have learned in Vietnam. That by using US troops to prop up a leader without real popular support, or that has only the appeal of being pro-US, we risk our troops acting as cover for settling of old scores, non-democratic attempts to prop up personal or sectarian positions. The Shi'a are the majority in Iraq (whereas the largely catholic based parade of losers in Vietnam were a small, but privileged minoirty), but Maliki is merely tolerated by the primary power players in Iraq.
