Prince William is born

A new heir to the British throne arrived on June 21, 1982, weighing just over 7 pounds. Prince William, the first son of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB000785" title="Diana, Princess of Wales" href="/topic/human-interest/imperial-royal-matters/diana-princess-of-wales-PECLB000785.topic">Diana, Princess of Wales</a>, and <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB000793" title="Charles, Prince of Wales" href="/topic/human-interest/imperial-royal-matters/charles-prince-of-wales-PECLB000793.topic">Charles, Prince of Wales</a>, became second in line to the throne behind his father. Thousands gathered outside Buckingham Palace awaiting the news.
