TIMES WIRE REPORTS

The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed its vote on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor for one week amid objections from the panel’s conservative Republicans, even as the judge’s support among GOP moderates grew.

Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), the panel’s chairman, said the committee would vote on the nomination July 28.

Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, Richard G. Lugar of Indiana and Mel Martinez of Florida have said they will vote for her.
