Your thoughts
Do you agree with gun dealer Eric Thompson's contention that allowing guns on college campuses could deter future shootings?
1.
Yes, I do agree that responsible adults with the proper training should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus. Why is it that mass shootings never take place at police stations or NRA conventions? Think about it.
2. PART ONE from Tarn Helm Pitiful lack of comparative research done by the anti-gun folks so far. First, 20 years ago, there were only 10 states where law-abiding citizens could walk around carrying concealed loaded firearms. Today, there are only 10 states where law-abiding citizens cannot walk around carrying concealed loaded firearms.
3. I don't think this will fix this issue and I doubt it will help it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-gun, I grew up with them but don't have one at the moment. As has been pointed out, blaming a dealer, doing his job correctly, is like blaming a car manufacturer for deaths by those that drive carelessly or drunk. THE ROOT OF THIS PROBLEM IS THE SPOILING, PERMISSIVE, MAKE EVERYONE A VICTIM, SOCIETY we have created.
4. This gun dealer has a motive GREED. Lets all carry handgun and revert to the wild wild west but instead have gunfights the school gym. If anyone thinks that carrying a gun will help get a clue pull the gun out and be a hero or dead, you have just become an immediate target, and probably outguned. Random shootings happen so fast you better be well trained to handle it, police officers are well trained and are killed everyday. You could have ten firearms within your reach but the deranged idiot has the element of surprise.
5. Our grandson will be going off to college and living in a dorm on campus where it will be common practice for students to be coming & going at all times of day & night. We definitely would want him to be able to defend himself with a firearm, if necessary, or to be able to order an in truder to get out by letting them know they can either leave immediately, or stay and take the consequences! Every law abiding American has the right to defend himself, and should not have to wait for police who may or may not get there in time.
6. More guns equals more bullets flying around. Everyone having fists does not stop bar fights, sucker punches or frat brawls. It is hard for the average guy to kill with one punch, almost ensuring some form of retaliation and often escalation in the form of a broken bottle or pool cue. Look at the flip side of the guns deter gun misuse argument for a second. If you know there is a chance someone will have a gun, and return fire, then wear body armor and bring a bigger, fully automatic weapon. Everyone carrying a gun is an escalation of violence not a deterrent. It is just unfortunate that we have come to the point where guns seem necessary.
7. These guys that march into public places and start shooting usually end up taking their own lives with a bullet to the head. Do you think that this end is not figured into the plan? How does the threat of death or return fire deter someone who is planning to die anyway? These guys are not planning to escape...they're not wearing body armor. In these shootouts that will supposedly deter shootouts, will the person who fires back and hits a bystander be considered a murderer or a hero?
8. Look -- I don't see why regular people need an AK-47, but I think that the ban on guns in certain public places and universities should end. And frankly, it doesn't matter if the armed student MISSES the assailant -- gunfire is enough to make the assailant duck, pause, perhaps flee. Guns in the hands of educated, responsible people is the smart thing to do. Period.
9. California has a great law--- no guns on campus, even toy ones. why would any one want to bring a gun to school unless it is to shoot some one?
10. We're talking about kids here. Is 7-year old Billy supposed to pull his sidearm and shoot a gunman? The suggestion is sheer idiocy.
