First-class stamps will rise to 42 cents starting May 12. Share your thoughts on the rate hike.

1. Its not the monetary increase that bothers me, its the fact that the postal service ups their fees, they issue the new stamps(they use an alphabetic letter) without designating the new numeric value on the stamp so you are stuck with these stamps you don't know the value of.I have a drawer full of them and they are unusable.

2. Now I have to spend $4.00 worth of gas to get 18 1cent stamps. The Postmaster can take my 18 cents and choke on it.

3. Do people still use the post office? Anyone heard of on-line bill pay and email?

4. I agree: Machines do most of the work of sorting mail - they don't read cursive. Stop cutting off your nose to spite your face and use block-print addresses. mooremedia: They do - they're called "Forever Stamps" and have been for sale for months.

5. So instead of spending a penny more for postage, why not just drive your letter over to its destination

6. Boo-hoo. I understand it can hurt smaller businesses and their customers. A little. But otherwise whoever sends and receives mail is Against America and the environment. There's this handy little thing called email (and spam for that junk mail you should not be receiving anyway). And paychecks? Hello, automatic deposit. Gift cards? Again, see the Internet. The occasional hand-written card will be allowed. If you're over 50. And only twice per year. Think of the savings in your taxes, on the environment, to the world's oil supply, etc.

7. To the cursive writer.....Lett-ers are written by machines and the post office has always recommended that you print on the envelopes....wh-y don't you just follow directions?

8. I have been paying my bills on line for over 10 years. The only time this affects me is when I mail out Christmas cards, and that's only a few once a year. [ And yes, I said **CHRISTMAS** cards, NOT **hoiliday** cards! :-)~ ]

9. The government should shift the cost for mailing all mail to junk mailers that way we can reduce the unwanted and unnecessary printing of paper and other trash that now fill our mail boxes, plus it would make the Post Office green. As for the public-relation ploy of the socalled forever stamp, they should just stop deceptive advertising and make the forever stamp a $1,000 stamp. And finally, to reduce the cost of doing government business by the Post Office those government credit cards should be taken away from any Postal employee and cut them up. Thanks

10. "Do it online" suggests handing this all over to private industry. Private industry is already involved - try mailing your electric bill using FedEx or UPS, Einstein. Bet it'll cost you a little more than 42 cents. Don't like the postage rates? Hand-deliver your own mail.
