From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Lightning on Saturn is a million times stronger than on Earth, researchers from the University of Iowa said Thursday.

The discovery was made by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, which is on a mission to study the ringed planet and its moons. As Cassini approached Saturn in July, it detected the radio signals of lightning as far away as 97 million miles, which is greater than the distance from Earth to the sun.
