Mazzoli first got involved with  gladiator re-creations by joining  a group of women who dressed up as Roman matrons, or upper-class housewives. But she quickly transitioned into sword-wielding.  “Being a matron was boring,” she says. “This requires discipline, passion, responsibility.”
