Soitanae and Family
Soitanae Ole Kyoiogo, 47, a Masai herdsman, lives with his family outside of his home near Kajiado, Kenya. Drought in East Africa has decimated the cattle population, the sole livelihood of many Masai people. Some fathers have resorted to marrying off their daughters as young as nine to receive a dowry including livestook to help replenish their stocks. Two of Soitanae's daughters, aged 10 and 9, ran away to a local boarding school to escape marriage.
