Rescued Girls

Timpian Soitanae, 9, (left) and Naipei Melita, 9, who have never been to school before, sit together in their first grade class. Both girls ran away from their families to escape early marriage and were "rescued" by the Africa Inland Church girls boarding school in Kajiado. The school has rescued dozens of girls in the past months. Some fathers have resorted to marrying off their daughters to receive a dowry, including livestook to help replenish their herds.
