Aberdeen: Mass of Christian burial for Elaine Kusler, 85, of Aberdeen is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, Father Shaun Haggerty, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Elaine died Monday, July 23, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday July 27, with family present from 5 to 7, followed by a liturgical wake and rosary service at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Elaine Lorraine Breunig was born on July 10, 1927, in Aberdeen to Albert and Sarah (Tribble) Breunig. She was raised in Leola where she graduated from high school. She obtained her Master's Degree from Northern State University, Aberdeen.
Elaine was united in marriage to Ervin Kusler on May 20, 1946, in Leola. The couple spent their first six months of married life in Petersburg, Va. before moving to Aberdeen where they resided for 66 years.
Elaine worked at Socony Vacuum for eight years and was an elementary school teacher for 20 years at Simmons and May Overby Elementary Schools. She was a long time member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; she also held membership with Kappa Delta Pi, Catholic Daughters, SDEA and NEA. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed playing bridge, square dancing, watching the stock market and raising toy poodles. Elaine was always striving to learn something new.
Grateful for having shared Elaine's life are husband, Ervin Kusler, Aberdeen; son, Barry (Karen) Kusler, Aberdeen; daughter, Janae (Kevin) Bettmann, Blaine, Minn.; son, Brad Kusler, Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren: Kelly (Andy) Phillips, Matthew Kusler, Alicia (Paul) Hanson, Jenna (Brandon) Witte, Andrew Bettmann, Sarah, Rhiannon and Skye Kusler; great-grandchildren: Alexa and Trevor Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Sarah Breunig; sister, Shirley Ann Breunig; and special Aunt, Pauline Alexander.
